Toronto, ON — April 10th 2026. Alternative trio FEATURETTE announce their second 2026 single “Animal” in a return to their alternative roots. The band pulls you into their underworld right from the jump with an ominous, drifting synth-bass that accelerates into a feverish opening verse. On a mission to write about the dark side of love and power dynamics, front woman Lexie Jay seeks autonomy from the prison of living up to expectations in someone else’s mind: “I’ve been diving in your mind ‘til I got the bends…”.

After only two chorus, FEATURETTE delivers a surprise left hook — impact through subtraction — the song dissolves, in a final act of rebellion. Instead of the expected edgy refrain, "Animal” takes an ambient, etherial turn, featuring choirs melding with Koecher’s soaring motivic guitars, before plummeting back to earth in a violent onslaught of reality screamed by Jay: “I was waiting for you … to put me down.”

VISUAL AESTHETIC

Following the momentum of their March release, "BadLook" (which surpassed 500K YouTube views in under a month), the band continues their "Featurette" philosophy of total DIY visual control.

The band also tease the impending release of a music video for "Animal" which drops Jay into a grunge-inspired, Black Mirror-esque twisted gameshow. Set against acid-green TV glows and a blown-out 2000s palette, the narrative serves as a blistering commentary on the "expiry dates" of artists and the soul-crushing demand for fame as the sole marker of success. RECENT MOMENTUM

Behind the curtain, two core members of FEATURETTE—Lexie Jay and Marc Koecher—operate as the acclaimed production duo Illegal Audio. Their influence is felt across the Canadian Music landscape; following their Billboard Alternative-charting work on The Strumbellas’ "Come Back Around" and Juno-nominated production for Shawnee Kish (Chapter 1), Koecher recently garnered two Juno Awards for his work on Aysanabee’s Edge of the Earth (Alternative Album of the Year & Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year). With "Animal," Koecher and Jay turn that technical mastery inward, refining the FEATURETTE sound into something leaner, meaner, and entirely autonomous.
