Toronto, ON — March 2026. With a seismic shift in sonic architecture, the Toronto-based alternative trio FEATURETTE announces the release of their latest single, BadLook, Friday, March 13th 2026. The single will be available across all streaming platforms and the visualizer on the band’s Vevo . The track marks the definitive beginning of the band’s next era, reintroducing themselves as a powerhouse of raw, organic tension and technical mastery.

BadLook signals a departure from the dark, polished alt-electro-pop of the band’s previous work, pivoting toward a sound that is both skeletal and massive. Swapping the precision of drum machines and digital synths for the visceral weight of live-off-the-floor drums and serrated guitar textures, FEATURETTE has crafted what they consider a "controlled collapse."

“It only took one bad look”

The track is a dark, femme-forward cut that marries the industrial trip-hop aesthetic of Phantogram with the expansive, haunting hooks of Ethel Cain. It is a study in friction—where Lexie Jay’s vocals shapeshift from guarded vocoder to exposed whispers to full out weapon, capturing the precise moment a red flag becomes an invitation.

THE ARCHITECTS: ILLEGAL AUDIO

Behind the curtain, the core of FEATURETTE—Lexie Jay and Marc Koecher—operate as the elite under-the-radar production duo Illegal Audio. With a credit list that includes The Strumbellas, JUNO-nominee Shawnee Kish and Carlyn, to name a few, the duo joined back with drummer and Featurette founder, Jon Fedorsen to shape the next iteration of the band’s sonic ethos with BadLook.

“I’ve always loved writing from the knife’s edge,” says lead singer Lexie Jay. “Somewhere in-between beautiful and brutal is where we want to live.”

THE VISUAL AESTHETICS

BadLook serves as the ultimate showcase of their "in-house" philosophy; the track was entirely self-produced, mixed, and mastered by FEATURETTE. This level of granular control ensures that every blown-out kick and razor-edged vocal serves the song’s central narrative of obsession and combustion.

Furthering their commitment to total creative autonomy, the BadLook visualizer was created, filmed, and edited entirely by the band. Utilizing a "Wes Anderson-inspired" three-color story—Cyan, Black, and Burnt Red—the visuals were captured directly from soured vintage tube TVs. This 90s analog homage is punctuated by thrashy, euphoric strobe sequences, creating a bridge between the nostalgia of the past, and the volatile energy of the band’s new era.
